FBI joins probe of threats made to San Gabriel Valley schools
Agents from the FBI office in Los Angeles are assisting local authorities investigating a series of threatening phone calls made this week to San Gabriel Valley schools.
The threats, some of which were also made to area hospitals, began Monday and continued into Thursday afternoon, law enforcement authorities said.
Because the calls have spanned multiple jurisdictions, the FBI joined the investigations, said Laura Eimiller, a bureau spokeswoman in Los Angeles.
“We’re working with the departments and offering resources,” Eimiller told The Times.
She declined to elaborate, citing the ongoing investigations.
On Thursday afternoon, Arcadia High School was locked down for more than two hours after officials received a threatening phone call, police said.
Officers searched the campus near Santa Anita Avenue and West Duarte Road.
The lockdown was lifted and students were being bused to the east side of Arcadia County Park, the Arcadia Police Department said.
On Tuesday afternoon, Duarte High School and an intermediate school that shares the same campus were placed on lockdown after a telephone report came in saying there was a person with a gun in the area, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
The Duarte campus was searched by deputies, but no person with a gun was found. No students were reported injured.
