Firefighters battle brush fire in Ventura County
Firefighters were battling a brush fire Tuesday afternoon in Ventura County that had burned about 20 acres.
About 75 firefighters were on the ground or en route to the Condor fire, which broke out shortly before 4 p.m. east of Fillmore near Highway 126, the Ventura County Fire Department said.
One helicopter from the Los Angeles County Fire Department was attacking the blaze from the air, and another helicopter and four air tankers were responding.
“It’s in very steep, rugged terrain,” Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Bill Nash told The Times.
He said commanders at the scene were optimistic that they could stop the spread of the flames, which were burning across light fuels.
He said the wind was not a factor in stoking the blaze, which had the potential to grow to about 50 acres.
“We’re fairly confident,” Nash said.
