LAX FlyAway bus service to and from Hollywood starts today

The popular low-cost FlyAway bus to Los Angeles International Airport is launching a new route to Hollywood today, a little more than a month after expanding service to Santa Monica.

Buses on the new route will operate hourly from 5:15 a.m. to 10:15 p.m. daily, including weekends and holidays. One-way fare is $8 and children younger than 5 ride for free.

Passengers will be picked up and dropped off on Hollywood Boulevard, one block east of the Hollywood/Vine Red Line Metro station.

In a statement announcing the new route, Mayor Eric Garcetti said it was part of a “back to basics” agenda for the city.

“There’s nothing more basic than cutting traffic and making it easier to get to and from the airport,” he said.

In July, Garcetti launched FlyAway service in Santa Monica to help ease Westside congestion. About 1.5 million travelers used FlyAway last year, according to the mayor’s office.

Earlier this summer, Los Angeles County transportation officials approved a new train station at LAX. The rail service to the airport is expected to start operating as early as 2022. Until then, Garcetti has been pushing the addition of new FlyAway stops.

South Bay service is expected to launch next year.
