Mayors of L.A., Anaheim make wager on Kings-Ducks playoff showdown

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti now has an excuse to spend the next two weeks watching hockey.

Garcetti and Anaheim Mayor Tom Tait placed a bet on the upcoming National Hockey League Western Conference playoff series between the Los Angeles Kings and the Anaheim Ducks. Over the next two weeks, the two teams will face off in a best-of-seven series, the first game of which is Saturday.

The mayor of the losing city will do a community service project in the winner’s city.

If the Ducks win, Garcetti will give a lesson in music and music appreciation to Guinn Elementary School in Anaheim. If the Kings win, Tait will come to an L.A. River Clean Up Day.

“Here in Anaheim, we love our Ducks, and I look forward to cheering them on all the way to Stanley Cup finals,” Tait said. “Upon conclusion of this second-round series, I will personally welcome Mayor Garcetti to Anaheim.”

Garcetti was equally confident about the Kings’ success.

“After the Kings advance to the conference finals, I will welcome Mayor Tait to join me for a project to clean up the L.A. River,” he said.
