A 23-year-old man was killed and two women were critically injured Tuesday night after a gunman fired multiple shots into their car in Santa Ana, police said.

The trio were seated inside the car parked on 12th Street near Main Street about 11:30 p.m. when a man exited a white SUV, approached and fired at least 10 rounds into the car, according to police.

The man who was killed, an Anaheim resident, was seated in the car’s front passenger seat when the gunman opened fire, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

The 21-year-old driver — who was able to drive to the 1200 block of Main Street, where police found them — and the second passenger, a 28-year-old woman, suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

They were taken to an area trauma center, where they were listed in critical but stable condition, Bertagna said.

Police plan to talk to neighborhood business owners and review video surveillance footage as part of their investigation into the shooting, he added.
