Southern California weather: Gusty winds prompt fire danger alert
Forecasters with the National Weather Service late Monday issued a wind advisory and accompanying high fire danger alert for the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area and the Interstate 5 corridor.
Weather experts said northwest winds reaching 30 mph, with gusts of as much as 45 mph, could be expected through Monday night.
Winds will shift to the northeast at about dawn Tuesday, with gusts of up to 50 mph during the day.
Officials warned that tall vehicles such as trucks should expect difficult driving conditions along canyon roads, Pacific Coast Highway and Interstate 5.
Forecasters also urged homeowners to secure loose outdoor furniture.
They said the high fire danger alert will remain in effect through Wednesday afternoon, when gusts reaching 65 mph are possible.
