After mini heat wave, a cool, wet weekend looms for Southland
A mini heat wave that broke temperature records across Southern California is expected to end later this week, followed by cooler weather and a chance of rain over the weekend, forecasters said.
On Friday, temperatures in inland areas are expected to drop 10 to 20 degrees as a high-pressure system that has kept conditions warm and sunny is replaced by colder air and a thick marine layer, according to the National Weather Service.
Forecasters are also warning of winds up to 37 mph along the coast, prompting a small-craft advisory. The winds are expected to last into Friday evening.
The effects of the mini heat wave are expected to linger through Thursday, with temperatures in the upper 70s at the beaches and the mid-80s inland.
Daytime temperatures on Friday are expected to drop to the 60s and 70s as the new weather system starts moving in
There is a 20% chance of rain on Saturday, with partly cloudy conditions expected on Sunday as the cooler weather system moves out and another high-pressure system takes its place, pushing temperatures back up.
