A 4-month-old girl has died from injuries sustained in a three-car crash on the 110 Freeway near Elysian Park, authorities said Sunday.

The infant, whose identity was not released, died at L.A. County-USC Medical Center, where she was rushed after the crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, California Highway Patrol Officer Stephan Brandt said.

Jared Silvestri, 26, was arrested on suspicion of a felony count of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the CHP.

The CHP said a 48-year-old woman was driving a 2006 Chrysler with two children, including the infant, and was pulling over to the right shoulder of the 110 Freeway just south of the 5 Freeway.

When the Chrysler was halfway onto the shoulder, Silvestri’s vehicle smashed into it, sending both vehicles spinning into a third vehicle, the CHP said.

The driver of the third vehicle, a 35-year-old man from Colorado, was not injured, the CHP said.

The woman and the other child in her car, a 10-year-old boy, were also hospitalized with moderate to major injuries.

Silvestri, a Pasadena resident, was being held on $2-million bail, according to jail records. He has not been formally charged, and it’s unclear if he was being represented by an attorney.

The crash prompted authorities to shut down two lanes of the northbound 110 Freeway, which reopened just after 9:30 p.m.
