A man shot his estranged wife in Jurupa Valley on Saturday morning before driving to San Bernardino and killing himself, authorities said.

Simona Mateas, 43, died at a hospital after authorities discovered her lying in a residential driveway in the 3400 block of Skylane Drive about 8:30 a.m., according to a statement from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Mateas and a second victim at the residence – who officials said had non-life threatening injuries – identified the suspect as Avram Mateas, according to the statement.

Several hours later, San Bernardino police received a call reporting a suicide in their city. Authorities later identified Avram Mateas as the man who killed himself.

“The investigation revealed that Avram and Simona Mateas were currently going through divorce proceedings,” the sheriff’s statement said.

The department did not release any additional details related to the suicide. The San Bernardino Police Department declined to comment, referring all questions to the sheriff’s department.
