L.A. heat wave: 100 degrees expected in some areas; records could fall
A four-day heat wave is forecast to begin Tuesday in Southern California, bringing with it near-record temperatures and high-wind warnings for much of the region.
A heat wave this week is expected to send temperatures soaring to 20 degrees above normal for much of the Southland, potentially breaking records with triple digits in some areas, forecasters say.
Building high pressure is also expected to bring gusty Santa Ana winds to the region, prompting warnings of high fire danger, particularly Tuesday through Thursday, when temperatures could hit 100 degrees in some inland areas, the National Weather Service said.
On Monday, daytime temperatures are expected to be near 70 degrees at the beaches and 80 degrees inland. But conditions will be significantly warmer Tuesday through Friday, with highs hitting the mid-80s at the beaches and lower- to mid-90s inland, according to the National Weather Service.
Records are expected to fall in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday, when some valley areas could see 100 degrees, forecasters warned.
Things will start to cool off on Saturday, with temperatures near 70 at the beaches and the lower 80s inland.
