Man suspected of attempted rape on Metro train turns himself in

A man wanted for allegedly trying to rape a woman on the Metro Purple Line has turned himself into police, authorities said Thursday.

Danon Drake, 23, walked into the Inglewood Police Department about 10 p.m. Wednesday and “said he was informed that police were looking for him and his picture had been broadcast on the news,” the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a prepared statement.

A sheriff’s sergeant went to the station and took Drake into custody on suspicion of assault with the intent to commit rape. Drake is being held in lieu of $1-million bail at Los Angeles County Jail.

Authorities allege that Drake was aboard an eastbound Purple Line train about 10:45 p.m. on May 17 as it left the Wilshire/Western Station and attacked a woman on board. As the train headed toward Union Station, he allegedly pushed her to the ground and assaulted her.

“The victim was able to kick the suspect, break free and exit the train once it stopped at the Wilshire/Normandie Station,” authorities said in a statement.

A court date for Drake has not been set.
