L.A. weather: Blustery, cold, rainy conditions in the forecast

A “cool and unsettled” weather pattern is making its way into Southern California, bringing with it the chance of rain showers and gusty winds that at times may give way to heavy downpours and even hail in the coming days, forecasters warned.

The approaching cold front is expected to bring moderate rain showers Monday through Tuesday night, as well as the possibility of thunderstorms, hail and heavy downpours, the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures during the weekend are expected to stay in the 70s under mostly clear skies until the clouds start moving in late Sunday.

There will be a 60% chance of rain on Monday, with showers expected to linger through Tuesday, the weather service said.

Snow levels are expected to stay above 5,000 feet.

Forecasters warned that wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph were possible in canyons and through passes, such as the 5 Freeway corridor and the south coast of Santa Barbara County.

Daytime highs will reach the low to mid-60s, according to the National Weather Service.

After the cold front moves through the region Tuesday night, another weaker system is expected to arrive later in the week, bringing a 20% chance of rain on Thursday and Friday.
