Labor Day weekend: DUI patrols, checkpoints on tap
Law enforcement agencies across Los Angeles County will be out in force this Labor Day weekend as part of an 18-day crack down on drunk driving.
Already, the number of arrests made in the first 13 days of the operation has outpaced last year.
From Aug. 16 through Wednesday, peace officers arrested 1,546 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, up from 1,418 during the same period last year, according to the county sheriff’s department.
Several of the arrests made so far during the anti-DUI campaign have been after crashes that resulted in injuries. Two people have also been killed, authorities reported.
With the Labor Day weekend coming up, agencies across the county will be beefing up patrols and setting up DUI checkpoints as the 18-day campaign winds down. The crackdown concludes with the holiday on Monday.
