Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck was involved in a traffic accident Wednesday evening in the Simi Valley area, but he was not injured, authorities said.

The multi-vehicle collision was reported on the 118 Freeway near the Yosemite exit about 6:35 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Beck was in the vehicle with his driver, but neither one was injured, an LAPD spokeswoman said.

“I’m fine,” Beck told The Times in a text message. He said there were no major injuries but that couple of people were transported to a hospital.

“I’ll be at work tomorrow,” the chief said.

Cmdr. Andrew Smith said preliminary information from the scene indicated that several vehicles were involved.

Smith said he did not know where the chief was going.
