LAPD detective pleads no contest to fondling massage parlor workers
A 49-year-old Los Angeles police detective pleaded no contest Wednesday to assaulting three San Fernando Valley massage parlor workers while he was on duty.
As a supervisor with the Los Angeles Police Commission Investigation Division, Oris Pace was responsible for enforcing business permits, including at massage parlors, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
Pace allegedly forced three women at separate parlors to undress, or undressed them himself, and fondled their bodies, prosecutors said.
The alleged offenses occurred between Jan. 1, 2011, and Jan. 9, 2012, prosecutors told the Los Angeles Times in January.
Pace, who has been placed on leave, is expected to be sentenced to 180 days in county jail and ordered to resign from the Los Angeles Police Department when he returns to court for sentencing on Aug. 8.
He will also be placed on formal probation for three years, prosecutors said.
Authorities were initially alerted to potential problems with Pace when a female massage parlor worker complained about his conduct in November 2011. The accusation was not made by a worker whom Pace was charged with assaulting, but it did lead to the discovery of the other alleged victims.
