A Los Angeles police officer was arrested Friday on suspicion of domestic violence and illegal discharging of a firearm, law enforcement officials said.

Timothy Gallick, 42, is assigned to the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division as a motorcycle officer. Shortly before 10:30 Friday morning, the 18-year police veteran was taken into custody without incident by detectives from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s Lancaster station, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Nicole Nishida.

The arrest stemmed from an incident that allegedly occurred earlier in the week, Nishida said. She said details of allegations were not immediate available.

LAPD officials said they were aware of the arrest. Gallick will be relieved of duty pending the outcome of the sheriff’s criminal investigation, LAPD Deputy Chief George Villegas said. Gallick will also face an internal investigation by the LAPD.
