Reality TV show’s filming equipment draws bomb squad at LAX

Share

A bag of filming equipment for a reality TV show delayed a flight out of Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday when police were called about luggage with suspicious wires hanging out of it.

Airport authorities received a call about the bag around 12:45 p.m., said LAX Police Sgt. Karla Ortiz. Police responded to the plane, which Ortiz said was in a remote area on the south side of the airfield, away from the airport’s central terminal area.

Passengers were evacuated from the plane and police, following protocol, called for a Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad, Ortiz said. Authorities determined that the bag, which belonged to passengers who were part of a film crew, was filled with filming equipment. Ortiz did not know with which show the film crew was associated.

The LAPD bomb squad verified that the bag contained filming equipment and cleared the scene around 2:30 p.m., Ortiz said, adding that the flight left shortly thereafter.

Ortiz identified the flight as American Airlines flight 2593, which Flightaware.com listed as bound for Roberts Field in Redmond, Ore., at 2:47 p.m.
