L.A. assistant city attorney picked to head FAA airports division
A 12-year veteran of the Los Angeles city attorney’s office has been appointed to head the airports division of the Federal Aviation Administration.
Eduardo A. Angeles, a senior assistant city attorney who has served as general counsel for Los Angeles World Airports, is scheduled to assume the top executive position in July.
FAA Administrator Michael Huerta announced the appointment last week in Washington, D.C.
The airports division is responsible for all programs related to airport safety, inspections and standards for airport design, construction and operations. It awards $3.5 billion annually in airport improvement grants and oversees national airport planning.
From 2002 to 2006, Angeles oversaw legal matters for Los Angeles International Airport, Ontario International Airport, Van Nuys Airport and Palmdale Regional Airport, which is now closed.
Angeles, 49, a resident of Pasadena, is currently assigned to the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, the largest city-owned utility in the nation. From 1991 to 2002, Angeles worked for the San Francisco city attorney’s office, where was a trial attorney and handled legal matters for San Francisco International Airport.
