Man convicted of posing as officer, seeking sex with victim’s wife

A Santa Ana man was convicted Tuesday of posing as a police officer and extorting a victim so that he could have sex with the victim’s wife.

Tariq Ibrahim Musa, 33, posed as a police officer and flashed a security badge at a man who was selling counterfeit CDs at a market in Santa Ana in April 2009, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Prosecutors said Musa told the 22-year-old man he was under arrest and forced him to hand over his wallet, which held a photo of the man’s wife.

“Musa then told the victim that his wife was beautiful” and that he would let him go if he could have “an hour alone” with the woman, the district attorney’s office said in a statement.

Musa told the man that he would serve 10 years in federal prison and then be deported to Mexico if he didn’t hand over his wife, according to prosecutors.

Prosecutors said Musa drove the man to his apartment to get his wife. Instead, the man called police.

Musa faces a maximum sentence of seven years to life in state prison. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 23 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
