A man believed to be 50 years old was found dead atop jagged rocks at the bottom of a cliff at Point Fermin Park in San Pedro, officials said.

It is unclear whether the man fell, jumped or washed ashore.

Sea search crews received a call at 1:08 p.m. that a man’s body was seen at the bottom of a cliff, according to Erik Scott, spokesman for the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters were working to determine the “safest way to bring the deceased man up the steep cliff,” he said.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the man’s death, and Los Angeles County coroner’s investigators were called to the scene.

Point Fermin Park — made popular by the movie “Chinatown” — is atop San Pedro’s rugged seaside bluffs.

Numerous people have fallen to their deaths from the bluffs in accidents and suicides. Others have survived the terrifying drop over the years.
