A San Mateo man was sentenced this week to two years in prison for using an airsoft pellet gun to rob a 16-year-old girl of $1.

Matthew Nguyen, 22, pleaded no contest July 7 to robbery with a deadly weapon enhancement in the Feb. 26 incident, according to the San Mateo County district attorney’s office.

On Wednesday, he was given 405 days credit for time served. He was also ordered to pay $1 in restitution to the victim.

Prosecutors said the girl was sitting at her dining room table doing homework when she saw Nguyen standing outside her home patio window.

He pointed the gun at the girl, who screamed for her father.

But Nguyen insisted the girl give him money, so she removed $1 from a pocket, opened the door and held it out for him, prosecutors said.

He took the money and fled, but police found him nearby.

Nguyen also tried to punch an officer and later vandalized a jail holding room, prosecutors said.
