Man hit and killed by freight train in Pacoima

A man was struck and killed by a freight train in Pacoima early Saturday, officials said.

A Union Pacific freight train struck Jesse Elkins, 41, at about 2 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and San Fernando Road, according to the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

The train was going northbound, and Elkins was pronounced dead at the scene, LAPD Lt. W. Jones said.

“Causes are unknown at this point,” Jones said. “The investigation is ongoing.”
