Man run over by Long Beach city trash truck in critical condition
A man who was run over by a Long Beach trash truck while lying on the beach Tuesday remains in critical but stable condition, city officials said.
The man, who has not been identified, was struck about 9 a.m. on the beach between 54th and 55th places by a “crew member conducting routine trash collection operations in a small truck,” officials said. “The individual was reportedly lying on the ground.”
The investigation is ongoing and no other details were immediately available, said Deputy City Manager Tom Modica.
[Updated 1 p.m. PST Feb. 5: The city employee has been removed from any duty that involves driving a vehicle until the investigation is complete, city officials said.]
