Man shot in foot during confrontation with officers in Vermont Square
A man was shot in the foot late Tuesday during a confrontation with LAPD officers in Vermont Square.
Officers from LAPD’s 77th Station approached a disruptive, gun-wielding man about 10:45 p.m. at 54th Street and Budlong Avenue, Officer Jack Richter said.
An officer-involved shooting happened and the man was shot in the foot, he said.
No officers were hurt in the incident, and the man -- whose name has not been released -- was taken into custody.
Hours later, officers patrolling the neighborhood of 52nd Street and Saint Andrews Place in South L.A. were involved in another shooting.
Police said a gunman pointed a weapon at officers, prompting one of them to fire their handgun. No one was struck by gunfire.
Aided by police dogs, SWAT and other officers searched a four-block area for the gunman and a possible second suspect, but did not find them.
