Plan ahead if you want to get around downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday, when May Day demonstrations are expected to bring area traffic to a grinding halt.

Some 30,000 people are expected to gather at Olympic Boulevard and Figueroa Street Wednesday to demonstrate in favor of comprehensive immigration reform. Streets and intersections throughout the area will begin closing at 6 a.m. and won’t reopen until as late as 9 p.m.

Most intersections on either side of Broadway -- Hill and Spring streets, between Olympic and Ord Street -- will be closed.
