$7.2 million in meth seized in San Bernardino County drug bust

California Department of Justice officials said Monday that they have arrested two alleged drug traffickers and seized more than 200 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of $7.2 million in San Bernardino County.

State officials said the bust occurred Wednesday in the 37700 block of Mountain View Road in the city of Hinkley.

Jorge Valdez, 34, and Miguel Angel Sanchez, 24, have since been charged with two felony counts for the manufacture and possession for sale of methamphetamine, officials said.

Both men remain in county jail on $1-million bail each.

The bust comes as California Atty. Gen. Kamala D. Harris tries to secure funding for the department’s task forces and special operations units that specialize in anti-narcotics investigations.

“This bust significantly reduces the amount of methamphetamine on our streets,” Harris said in a statement. “California is the national epicenter of its trafficking and distribution, so I have made it a priority of the California Department of Justice’s task forces to stop those who sell and manufacture this debilitating drug.”

The bust was part of a joint investigation with detectives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. They were also assisted by the California Highway Patrol and Homeland Security.
