Several streets in the Mid-City neighborhood near the 10 Freeway were blocked Tuesday evening as police searched for a man believed to be on foot and holding a gun.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department's Wilshire station spotted a vehicle about 5 p.m. that was believed to have been connected to a shooting earlier this week, a watch commander at the Wilshire station said.

When police stopped the vehicle near the 2100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard, a man thought to have a gun in his hand jumped out of the vehicle and ran, the watch commander said. There were four other people in the vehicle who were detained and were being questioned.

The man was apprehended after a four-hour search of the area, said Lt. Lonnie Tiano of the Wilshire station. A police dog found the man hiding in bushes near an onramp to the 10 Freeway, Tiano said.

"The dog located him and the officers took him into custody," Tiano said. "There were no bites."

Streets in the area were being reopened late Tuesday, Tiano said. Police were still searching the area to see if the man discarded what was thought to be a gun when he ran from the vehicle.
