Missing Burbank man’s Lexus found off Angeles Crest Highway cliff

The car belonging to the 24-year-old Burbank man reported missing nearly two months ago was found Sunday off a cliff near the Angeles Crest Highway, authorities said Monday.

Gevork Boyadzhyan’s white Lexus sedan was located by authorities Sunday 400 feet off mile marker 65 of the highway, Lt. Brian Fitch of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station told the Burbank Leader. No body was found inside the car, but items of clothing were recovered next to the vehicle, he added.

Boyadzhyan’s family said police told them an unidentified body was discovered near the scene, but authorities declined to confirm that information.

“We are praying it’s not him,” said Boyadzhyan’s sister, Ana Akilyan.

The investigation is being handled by the Sheriff’s Department homicide bureau.

Boyadzhyan was last seen leaving his home near Grismer Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard at about 7:30 p.m. on July 20. At about 8:30 p.m., he sent a text message to a friend saying, “Call me.”

The friend tried to call about an hour later, but Boyadzhyan’s phone had been turned off.

Since then, no activity has been reported on his credit cards, and there has been no sign of him at local hospitals or jails, according to his family.

Boyadzhyan had some run-ins with law enforcement. He was convicted of robbery in September 2006 and of vehicle theft two years later, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court records.

But after serving his last sentence, he turned his life around, Akilyan said.

“He was staying away from everybody or anything that could be trouble for him,” Akilyan said a month after he went missing. “He wanted to get married. He didn’t want to go back to jail; he didn’t want to get in trouble.”
