A man involved in a Friday morning standoff with police in a Northridge home after allegedly shooting his girlfriend to death was arrested on suspicion of murder, police said.

The man, who has not been identified, was arrested after the standoff, during which he appeared to have shot himself in the face, said Los Angeles police Lt. Andy Neiman. He was in stable condition at a hospital, Neiman said.

Police rushed to the neighborhood near Kenya Street and Baton Rouge Avenue just south of the 118 Freeway about 12:30 a.m. after residents reported a stabbing and a shooting.

When police arrived, they found a woman shot dead in front of a home across the street from the suspect’s house in the 19200 block of Kenya Street, said Sgt. Jeff Stahl of the LAPD.

“I don’t know if he chased her across the street or what,” Stahl said.

Police connected the woman’s death with her boyfriend and called him on the phone, Stahl said. He refused to come out and the SWAT team was called in to help.

The man surrendered about 5:15 a.m. and was taken to a hospital, police said.

“He allegedly killed somebody so he’s going to have to deal with that,” Stahl said.

The identity of the victim was not available.
