A pilot and his passenger escaped serious injury Tuesday when their plane flipped over while landing in a field in Oceanside, authorities said.

Neither of the people on board, passenger Daniel Harabagiu and pilot Lance Murray, were seriously hurt when the Pitts biplane went down near the Oceanside Municipal Airport about 11:30 a.m., Fox5 reported.

One of the people aboard was slightly injured and the other was unhurt, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane went down in a field just east of the airport and north of California 76, according to the FAA.

The plane had taken off from McClellan-Palomar Airport and was planning to return there, but the pilot reported the plane was experiencing engine failure during the flight, and he was trying to divert the plane to Oceanside when it went down, according to the FAA.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.
