One killed, two wounded in Pasadena drive-by shooting

An 18-year-old man was killed and two others were wounded in a drive-by shooting in Pasadena, authorities said Tuesday.

The shooting was reported about 9:45 p.m. Monday in the 1400 block of El Sereno Avenue, according to a Pasadena Police Department statement.

The 18-year-old, identified by coroner's officials as Steven Ascencio, was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Another man and a teen were wounded and taken to hospitals, police said. Their conditions were not immediately available.

HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim

Authorities did not have descriptions of the suspects. Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting.

This is at least the second homicide in Pasadena this year. The previous incident took place Sunday two blocks away.

On Monday, authorities arrested 18-year-old Jonjon Crummie on suspicion of murder in connection with the earlier case after he surrendered to police.

He was identified as a person of interest in connection with the death of a 19-year-old woman who was found fatally shot in her home. Coroner officials have identified her as Irais Acosta Olvera of Pasadena.

At least 37 homicides have been reported in Pasadena since January 2007, according to The Times homicide report database. More than two-thirds of the victims died from gunshot wounds.
