Pedestrian struck and killed on 101 Freeway in Encino

A pedestrian was struck and killed while walking on the eastbound 101 Freeway in Encino early Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

Multiple vehicles hit the pedestrian at approximately 1:06 a.m., CHP Officer Alex Rubio said.

Officials said calls came in minutes before the collisions reporting a pedestrian walking on the shoulder and in lanes of the busy freeway through the San Fernando Valley.

The victim was an unidentified male, according to Lt. David Smith of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Responding officers encountered at least four vehicles that were involved in the incident, Rubio said.

There were no immediate reports of any drivers or passengers transported to hospitals with injuries.

All eastbound lanes of the 101 Freeway at White Oak Avenue were closed at 1:31 a.m., Rubio said. They were reopened at 4:46 a.m., he said.
