An ex-boyfriend sought in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old girl in Pico Rivera is in custody and is expected to be held on a murder charge, authorities said Tuesday.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies assigned to Pico Rivera Station’s summer enforcement team spotted 17-year-old Rory Murga about 7:35 a.m. Tuesday under a railroad underpass at Rosemead Boulevard and Slauson Avenue.

Moore was downstairs in her home in the 9800 block of Shade Lane when someone entered the residence through the back door. Moore was stabbed and then ran upstairs to her mother’s bedroom, the sheriff’s department said.

Based on the girl’s dying words to her mother, homicide detectives identified Murga as a person of interest. Moore and Murga had been together a year before their breakup about two weeks prior.

Murga was taken into custody and transported to Pico Rivera Station for booking. He is expected to be transported to a juvenile detention facility, where he will remain without bail on a murder charge.

“The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department would like to thank the public for the several tips received, which prompted deputies to search the surrounding Rosemead Boulevard and Slauson Avenue area,” the sheriff’s department said.
