Deputies unsure if captured pit bulls killed woman
Authorities seized six pit bulls and two other dogs Thursday evening, but said they were unsure if the animals fatally mauled a 63-year-old woman earlier in the day.
Deputies saw the woman as she was attacked in Littlerock by a pack of pit bulls Thursday morning, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
One of the deputies fired rounds toward the dogs, causing the animals to flee, department officials said in a statement.
The woman died en route to a hospital. Her name was not released.
Deputies in a helicopter and in patrol cars launched a search after the mauling near 116th Street East and Avenue S in Littlerock.
After receiving information from residents and animal control workers, deputies served a search warrant at a home in the 37300 block of 115th Street in Littlerock. They took the six pit bulls and two mixed-breed dogs from the property.
The Sheriff’s Department said deputies also found a “marijuana grow” at the home. A 29-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of growing the drug.
