South Bay power outage leaves 115,000 homes without electricity
A widespread power outage in the South Bay left more than 115,000 homes without electricity Sunday morning.
Reports came in around 7 a.m. of downed power lines at 190th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard. The damage knocked out a Southern Edison substation in Torrance, causing 115,000 customers to lose power, said spokesman David Song.
The outage affected residents in Torrance, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, South Redondo Beach, northwest San Pedro and Lomita. Torrance reported the biggest outage with more than 83,000 homes affected.
Southern Edison could not provide an estimated restoration time, but said crews were working as fast as they could to fix the problem.
“A half-dozen crews are working quickly and safely to restore the outage,” Song said.
Traffic lights were also down in the affected areas. Song said to expect traffic delays in the area, particularly on parts of Crenshaw Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard.
“With a widespread area where traffic lights are not working, drivers should treat intersections like a four-way stop,” he said.
He also advised people to stay away from downed power lines and call 911 if they spot one.
