$1.4-million Powerball ticket sold at El Segundo 7-Eleven

A Powerball ticket worth $1.4 million was sold at a 7-Eleven at 2161 El Segundo Blvd., California lottery officials said Thursday.

The ticket was one of two in the state that matched five numbers -- missing only the Powerball number, officials said in a news release. The other was sold at Stop Save Liquor No. 2 at 1424 Coffee Road in Modesto, they said.

Officials were still waiting for the nation’s only jackpot winner to come forward Thursday and claim a $425.3-million prize. The winning ticket was sold at Dixon Landing Chevron at 1551 California Circle in Milpitas, officials said.

State lottery spokesman Alex Traveso said he would anticipate that the winner will come forward within about a week. The jackpot was the sixth largest in U.S. lottery history, he said.

“I give the person the first day to be shocked,” he said, “and then the wheels start turning.”

Almost immediately after officials announced where the winning ticket was sold, media descended on the Dixon Landing Chevron, just off the 880 Freeway north of San Jose.

In a phone interview with The Times, Parmeet Singh, 24, said his family has owned the store since 2009. It is one of seven lottery retailers owned by his family.

Before Wednesday, he said, a $10,000 Scratcher was the biggest winner the station had sold. By Thursday afternoon, lottery officials had visited the store and updated computer displays with a sign that said: “A Powerball prize of $400,000,000 was won on 2/19/14, here at DIXON LANDING CHEVRON.”

Then they presented Parmeet with the prize for selling the winning Powerball ticket: A massive check for $1 million.

“It’s out of this world,” he told The Times. “You feel like you’re floating, like everything is a dream.”
