Reader photo: It never rains in...

Share

Certainly photographer Rusty Colby isn’t the first to photograph one of Los Angeles’ beaches in the rain, but it seems a rarity in our neck of the woods. Not to say that it never rains in Southern California, but to circulate photos of such an occurence? As some tend to say, “It’s not good for our rep.”

To ignore the rain (and ensuing photos), however, is to ignore an altogether gorgeous type of photography. Colby took this shot on Venice Pier the morning of Dec. 7.

“For all the raucousness of the Venice boardwalk, the pier is surprisingly peaceful at that hour of the morning,” he wrote in an email. “I think the birds and the surfers thought I was a little nuts standing out in the rain shooting photos.”

Colby shot this image with a Canon EOS 7D with an EF 24-105mm lens.
