Redondo Beach police late Thursday shot and killed a man they say was armed with a knife and appeared to have assaulted his mother

Shortly after 11 p.m., officers arrived in the 500 block of Susana Avenue, where witnesses said they saw a woman being dragged into a residence. Officers could see the suspect inside the home, but he refused to obey commands, Redondo Beach police Capt. Jeff Hink said.

“Officers forced the front door open, and shortly thereafter, the suspect armed himself with a knife, and that resulted in an officer-involved shooting,” Hink said.

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Mitchell Allison, was shot multiple times and was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he later died, Hink said.

Hink said Allison was the son of the victim and shared the residence with her.

Mutiple law enforcement agencies are investigating the incident.
