Police are looking for a 27-year-old man in connection with a Friday night shooting in Redondo Beach that left a Gardena man dead.

The victim, Bobby Darren Reynolds, 38, was visiting relatives when he was shot multiple times at about 8 p.m. in the 2400 block of Ralston Lane. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Redondo Beach Police Capt. Jeff Hink said Reynolds appeared to have been targeted. “We don’t think it was random,” Hink said. But investigators do not know the motive.

The shooter, who police believe was using a handgun, ran to a waiting car and sped off with the driver, according to witnesses. The vehicle, a Chrysler 300 sedan, was abandoned a few blocks away and the two men, described as Latino or white and in their early 20s, fled on foot.

Police have named Erick Julian Ortega, the Chrysler’s registered owner, as a person of interest in the case. Ortega, 27, has a record of prior arrests for robbery and narcotics offenses, police said, and has multiple tattoos on his upper body. He is 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs 160 pounds and has brown hair and eyes.

Anyone with information about the case can call the police tip line at (310) 937-6685 or send text messages to police at (310) 339-2362.
