A collision in the Antelope Valley on Wednesday involving a San Bernardino County sheriff’s patrol car transporting inmates left five people injured and shut down traffic on Pearblossom Highway, authorities said.

Just after 3:45 p.m., the patrol car and a Honda Civic collided on Pearblossom Highway at 126th Street East in Pearblossom, Los Angeles County Fire Department spokesman Inspector Rick Flores said.

Seven people in total were involved in the crash, Flores said.

Two people were airlifted from the scene in unknown condition and two inmates riding in the patrol car were taken to the hospital for observation, county fire dispatcher Melanie Flores said.

The deputies riding in the patrol car were not injured, California Highway Patrol spokesman Officer Alex Rubio said.

Traffic in both directions on Pearblossom Highway was shut down as investigators examined the scene, Rubio said.
