Couple found killed in San Juan Capistrano identified

The man and woman who were killed in an upscale San Juan Capistrano home were identified as a divorced couple who continued to live together while they raised five children.

Bradford Hans Sachs, 57, and Andra Resa Sachs, 54, were found dead inside the home at 32271 Peppertree Bend a little before 2 a.m. Saturday.

An 8-year-old boy who was also at the home was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators now are looking at the case as a homicide and are “exploring all possibilities,” but no suspects have yet been identified, Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Jeff Hallock said.

Neighborhood residents said they were alarmed and searching for answers Monday to what might have happened inside the multimillion dollar home.

The Sachs had five children, two of whom are older and out of the house, neighbor Patty Bonin said. The family would ride bikes around the neighborhood and sometimes took an RV out on vacations, she said.

“They were just really nice people,” she said. “It’s just really a mystery.”

According to public records, the Sachses were landlords in San Juan Capistrano and owned properties in other areas.

Chris Knuth, owner of Star Motors in San Juan Capistrano, rented one of their offices in the city.

“They were always nice, courteous and helpful to us,” he said. “They always seemed happy to see us grow.”

Another renter, Ken Baum, told KTLA that the couple were difficult and seemed to have legal troubles.

“They changed their name a couple of times on the checks that we’d send to them, and basically they didn’t keep their agreements very well at all,” Baum told the news station.
