Authorities are seeking help from the public in locating a sailboat carrying a 9-year-old Seattle boy allegedly abducted by his father. The sailboat may be headed to California, officials said.

The 1976 White Cooper sailboat “Draco” has a 6-inch red stripe on its sides with Washington license plate WN6753NZ, according to the FBI.

The sailboat is being operated by, Jeffrey Ford Hanson, who is accused of abducting his 9-year-old son, Billy Ginger Hanson, on Aug. 28.

Billy was expected to return to his mother in Pennsylvania on Sept. 4.

The boy is described as 4 feet tall and 90 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen at 7001 Seaview Ave. NW in Seattle, wearing black knee-length surf shorts with no shirt or shoes.

Hanson, 46, is described as 5 feet 5 inches tall and 160 pounds with blond hair and blue eyes.

Police and federal officials say Jeffrey Hanson is believed to be extremely volatile and is a known drug user.

They say the father may have taken the child to the San Juan Islands, Mexico or Tahiti, but authorities also believe he could have made his way to Hawaii, Alaska, Oregon or California.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the child or sailboat is asked to contact the FBI in Seattle at (206) 622-0460.
