Manhattan Beach neighbors evacuated after reports of shots
Residents of a Manhattan Beach neighborhood were evacuated early Saturday after reports of shots being fired in a nearby apartment building.
Manhattan Beach police have cordoned off an area around Bayview Drive and 32nd Street, believing that a gunman might be barricaded inside the building, according to KTLA-Channel 5. SWAT officers were also on the scene.
Firefighters were dispatched to the neighborhood after reports of a fire, and they noticed a bullet hole and blood near a residence, the news station reported.
[Update, 1:12 p.m., Aug. 10: KTLA has reported that the standoff has ended, and the house was found to be empty:
“Residents living on Bayview Drive near 32nd street in Manhattan Beach were allowed to return to their homes Saturday afternoon, after authorities entered a duplex but found no gunman. ...”SWAT officers entered the unit just before noon, but found no one inside, authorities said.”Residents were then allowed to return to their homes.”Manhattan Beach police said they would continue to search for the individual who lives in the unit where the bullet hole was found.”]
