Sierra fire in Cajon Pass burns 150 acres of brush, officials say
Firefighters were battling a brush fire in the Cajon Pass in San Bernardino County that had burned about 150 acres of chaparral.
About 20 to 30 mobile homes were being evacuated on the west side of Cajon Pass north of the 215 and 15 freeways, said John Miller, spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.
The fast-moving fire broke out shortly before 4 p.m. at the base of the pass in the Sycamore Flats area near Verdemont Ranch Road and spread from 20 acres to 150 acres, according to the Forest Service.
The blaze was being battled by firefighters from the Forest Service and San Bernardino County Fire Department.
Crews on the ground were being aided by aircraft and helicopters making assaults on the flames.
“Aircraft are making good progress,” Miller told The Times.
