Simi Valley City Councilman Steven T. Sojka, 49, was arrested recently, reportedly on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to police and local media.

The incident was first reported Saturday by the Ventura County Star, which said the arrest was related to drinking.

Booking records don’t clearly indicate the reason for the arrest, but say Sojka was taken into custody at 12:11 a.m., March 12, on a misdemeanor charge.

El Segundo police made the arrest. Sojka’s bail was set at $5,000. Officials released him at 8:12 a.m. that same morning.

Officials with both the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the El Segundo Police Department on Sunday night said they had no additional information available.

The Ventura paper obtained a statement from an attorney representing Sojka.

“Steve is disappointed that his conduct led to his arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol,” attorney George Bird was quoted as saying. “We have not received the police reports yet, so we are not able to comment on all of the facts.”

Bird added: “This was purely private conduct and not related to his work as a City Council member.”

Bird could not be reached for comment Sunday.

Sojka was appointed to the Simi Valley City Council in 1998, and has won elections to four-year terms ever since, most recently in 2012.
