Man in critical condition after stabbing at Fountain Valley market

A man who was stabbed multiple times in the parking lot of a Fountain Valley supermarket Saturday night is in critical condition following emergency surgery, police said.

The suspect, a 17-year-old who is on probation, was booked into Orange County Juvenile Hall on attempted carjacking and attempted murder charges, police said.

The incident occurred about 8:55 p.m. as the victim was walking to his car at the Stater Brothers on Warner Avenue, police said. The suspect allegedly demanded his car keys, then stabbed the victim about four times in the upper torso before fleeing on foot, according to a statement from the Fountain Valley Police Department.

The two did not know each other, police said. The suspect was apprehended about a block away and identified by multiple witnesses.
