Stanley Cup: Street closures in effect for Kings victory parade
Los Angeles Kings fans flooded L.A. Live Friday night to watch the Kings take on the New York Rangers in the fifth game of the Stanley Cup.
Crowds of fans are expected to line a one-mile stretch of Figueroa Street in downtown Los Angeles on Monday for the parade celebrating the Kings’ Stanley Cup victory.
It’s the second victory lap for the Kings in three seasons after their 3-2 double-overtime victory Friday night over the New York Rangers. The Kings also won the NHL championship in 2012.
And just as they did then, players will be making their way down Figueroa atop double-decker buses as thousands of fans cheer them on.
The procession, beginning at noon at Figueroa and 5th streets and ending at Staples Center, is expected to last 30 to 40 minutes, with a number of street closures taking effect at 6 a.m.
The Kings will also host a sold-out hourlong fan rally at Staples Center starting at 1 p.m.
Officials are encouraging fans to take public transportation to the area to avoid getting caught up in heavy traffic.
Starting at 6 a.m., the following streets will be closed along the parade route:
- Figueroa Street between 3rd Street and Pico Boulevard
- 11th Street/Chick Hearn Court between Figueroa and L.A. Live Way
- L.A. Live Way between Olympic and Pico boulevards
