Stepfather arrested in stabbing death of Hawthorne woman
The stepfather of a Hawthorne woman who was stabbed to death last month was arrested on suspicion of murder over the weekend.
Alvin Hunt Jr., 59, was arrested Saturday in Long Beach, KTLA reported. He is suspected of stabbing 22-year-old Naquia Danielle Catching on Sept. 26 at their home in the 4800 block of West 118th Place, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Catching’s mother came home from work and found her suffering from stab wounds and unresponsive, said Lt. Eddie Hernandez of the Sheriff’s Department. Catching was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the L.A. Times Homicide Report.
Hunt, the mother’s estranged boyfriend who was living in the apartment, had been sought as a person of interest in the slaying. Hernandez said Catching’s mother told Sheriff’s Department officials that she had received a strange call from the boyfriend earlier in the day.
The mother told officials that Hunt said he would pick up their 9-year-old daughter, something he doesn’t normally do, and that he made a “strange comment,” Hernandez said.
