Storm brings rain, snow to Southern California
An early season storm Wednesday brought showers and rain to Southern California and snow to mountain areas.
Rainfall varied across the region, with some areas reporting light showers and others a half-inch or more, according to the National Weather Service.
By Wednesday evening, Burbank had recorded 0.10 of an inch of rain, but more than a quarter-inch had fallen at the Santa Monica Pier, the Weather Service said.
More than a half-inch of rain was reported in Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino County and Palomar Mountain in San Diego County, according to the Weather Service.
The agency said an inch of rain was recorded at Lake Arrowhead.
Snow fell in higher elevations of the San Bernardino Mountains and created slick roadway conditions near Big Bear, the California Highway Patrol said.
Mud and debris were reported on area roadways with the biggest problem occurring on the 5 Freeway in the Sun Valley area. A huge debris flow from a nearby storm drain spilled rocks, water and mud across the busy freeway during rush hour.
Officials were forced to close all eight lanes in both directions. Late Wednesday, all but two northbound lanes were open on the freeway, the CHP said.
Temperatures are expected to remain cool Thursday before a warming trend begins Friday and continues through next week, the Weather Service said.
