Suspect, vehicle sought in shooting near Santa Monica College
Police are looking for a suspect and vehicle, possibly a blue Infiniti, involved in a Tuesday morning shooting near Santa Monica College that sent two men to the hospital.
A suspect walked up to the men standing in an alley in the 1500 block of Michigan Avenue about 8:15 a.m. and opened fire, Santa Monica police said. The shooter then ran to the vehicle, which headed westbound on Michigan.
The victims, described as 25 to 35 years old, were hit multiple times in the upper body, police said. They were taken to a hospital, where sources said they were in surgery. Their conditions were unknown.
Investigators said it was too early to tell whether the incident was gang-related.
It marked the third shooting in Santa Monica in five days,
Law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation said Tuesday’s incident had no connection with Friday’s rampage that left five victims and a gunman dead at the college and surrounding neighborhood.
The sources said investigators were trying to determine if Tuesday’s incident was tied to another shooting Sunday, when a cyclist was wounded on Yorkshire Avenue.
A member of the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School Board told The Times that Sunday’s victim, a man in his late 20s, was riding his bicycle when a car pulled up and someone inside fired three shots.
